A tragic crash in Pike County Saturday night happened during a police pursuit. WNIN’s John Gibson has the update:
Indiana State Police say a Pike County sheriff’s deputy was pursuing a driver involved in a domestic violence incident.
The ISP says the suspect vehicle ran a red light on State Road 64, forced a driver off the highway, and tried to hit the deputy’s vehicle.
Investigators say a short time later, the suspect’s car crossed the centerline and collided head-on with a minivan driven by 41-year-old Amanda Wertman of Winslow.
Four children were also traveling in the Sienna.
Wertman and the driver of the Camry were pronounced deceased at the scene.
The identity of the suspect pursued by police has not been released.
Wertman’s eight-year-old daughter, Michaela, was later pronounced deceased at a Louisville hospital.
The three other children remain hospitalized and are expected to recover.
The ISP says Crash Reconstruction Team is still investigating the circumstances of the tragedy.
