A new Attendance Challenge is focused on helping families with everyday expenses while encouraging students to attend school. WNIN’s John Gibson has more:
A partnership between the Evansville Vanderburgh School Corporation and the Evansville Promise Neighborhood will provide 37 families with a 300-dollar Housing Stability gift card that can be used toward rent, utilities, or groceries.
Meanwhile, students attending schools in the Promise Neighborhood who have perfect attendance the previous month will be entered into a lottery for their family to receive a gift card.
Mayor Stephanie Terry says the nine-month pilot program is another way to support families, remove barriers, and reinforce an important message that every day in the classroom counts.
The program is available to students at all six Promise Neighborhood schools: Bosse High School, Delaware Elementary School, Evans School, Glenwood Leadership Academy, Lincoln School, and Lodge Community School.
