8th District Rep. Mark Messmer (R) released a TV ad "trumpeting" his accomplishments; it was paid for by congressional "franking" funds

A TV ad by 8th District Representative Mark Messmer is drawing criticism from his Democratic challenger. WNIN’s John Gibson has details:

Perhaps you’ve seen the ad from the Republican incumbent playing his trumpet while marching around his hometown of Jasper:

Democrat Mary Allen says the spot was paid for by taxpayers.

She notes Messmer used a fund available to members of Congress for services like mailings, legislative updates, and questionnaires:

"And what makes it even more egregious is that he has hundreds of thousands of dollars in his campaign account. And if he wants to run adds boasting about his record 80-something days out from the election, he should his campaign funds, not hard-earned tax dollars."

In the spot, Messmer does not mention Allen, political parties, or the upcoming election.
