Evansville firefighters extinguished a blaze in a commercial building on the city’s West Side Thursday morning. WNIN’s John Gibson has details:
Crews were dispatched to the former Aramark building in the 1100 block of Florence Street, near Fulton Avenue, just after 8:30 a.m.
Upon arrival, firefighters saw black smoke coming from the roof of the building.
The EFD says employees inside the business had safely evacuated.
Firefighters found and extinguished the fire that originated in a dryer and spread through a vent to the roof.
Investigators determined the fire was caused by spontaneous combustion of clothing inside the dryer.
No civilian or firefighter injuries were reported.
Authorities temporarily blocked Fulton Avenue between Uhlhorn Street and Shanklin Avenue to allow emergency crews to work safely.
