Democrat Challenger Mary Allen is criticizing Republican Rep. Mark Messmer's Heat Standards Act

8th District Representative Mark Messmer calls it a “big win.” His Democratic opponent says it threatens workers. WNIN’s John Gibson reports on a bill that has passed a House committee:

The Republican congressman from Jasper is touting his Heat Workforce Standards Act passed in the Committee on Education and Workforce.

Messmer says it rolls back burdensome Biden-Harris red tape, unleashes American businesses, and advances a pro-growth agenda that puts workers and job creators first.

Democrat Mary Allen of Evansville says it strips heat protections from workers.

She says basic protections like access to water and rest in the shade should not be controversial.

Allen also says Messmer’s bill directly threatens safety standards that workers “fought so hard to obtain.”

Allen is challenging Messmer in the November election.
