Kentucky Governor Andy Beshear says he will use an unexpected influx of state money to reverse cuts to Medicaid. WNIN’s John Gibson has more:
Beshear is citing what he calls the commonwealth’s “surging economy” for an unbudgeted 476-million dollar surplus and an unexpected amount of corporate income tax payments of more than 350-million.
The Democratic governor says he will apply the money to reverse the Republican-controlled General Assembly’s cuts to Medicaid.
Beshear also announced his administration has identified a source of funding to restore the state’s Road Fund following his executive order to temporarily reduce Kentucky’s gasoline tax.
The governor also activated the commonwealth’s price-gouging statute.
At a news conference on Wednesday, Easter Seals Chief Operating Officer Lloyd Elliott said the moves have brought relief to her organization, which serves hundreds of clients on Medicaid.
