The Tri-State faces a triple-threat: unhealthy air, extreme heat, and severe storms. WNIN’s John Gibson has details:
Smoke from Canadian wildfires has made its way to southwest Indiana, prompting IDEM to issue an Air Quality Action Day for Monday.
The state agency says fine particulates are expected to make the air “unhealthy for sensitive groups” – like the elderly, children, and anyone with lung or heart conditions.
Northern parts of Indiana remain at a higher risk of unhealthy air.
Meanwhile, the National Weather Service has issued an Extreme Heat Warning for Tuesday in the Evansville area.
Temperatures are expected to reach the mid-90’s with the heat index as high as 116.
The weather service has also placed the Evansville area at a Level 2 – or slight – risk of severe storms on Tuesday.
Forecasters say the storms will be followed by cooler and less humid air Wednesday and Thursday.
