Heat Likely, Storms Possible on Holiday Weekend

NWS Paducah

The National Weather Service says the heat won't be as extreme but thunderstorms will be possible on July 4th

An Extreme Heat Warning is expected to be lifted Friday night in the Tri-State, but the Fourth of July is still looking hot and humid – and potentially stormy. WNIN’s John Gibson has a preview:

The National Weather Service says the holiday weekend will continue to be hot and humid but the heat index won’t be as extreme.

Still, the index is expected to reach triple-digits through Sunday.

Meanwhile, fireworks may not make the only noise in the Tri-State on the Fourth, as thunderstorms are possible on the holiday – bringing some brief relief from the heat.

The forecast does not call for any real relief from the heat wave until next week – and even then, temperatures are still expected to reach at least 90.

In the meantime, the weather service urges everyone to stay hydrated, stay out of the sun, take advantage of air conditioning as much as possible, and check up on friends and neighbors.
