Officials say the July 4th fireworks display on Evansville's riverfront will feature 1,400 shells and new "pyrotechnic effects"

Officials are preparing for the July 4th fireworks display on the Evansville riverfront. WNIN’s John Gibson has a preview:

The Downtown Evansville Improvement District will host Fireworks on the Ohio Presented by Bally’s Evansville.

The event is scheduled to begin at 6 P.M. Saturday with food trucks along Riverside Drive between Court and Cherry streets.

Free activities will also be featured at Riverside and Main, along with what officials call “commemorative elements” including patriotic lighting at three landmark properties along the riverfront, a large American flag displayed by the Perry Township Fire Department, and live music.

The 17-minute fireworks show is expected to begin around 9:15 and will feature more than 14-hundred shells and new pyrotechnic effects.

You can see a live stream of the fireworks on WNIN’s YouTube channel.

Officials say free parking will be available in the city’s parking garages at 3rd and Locust and 6th and Sycamore streets.
