A new era has begun for the Evansville Fire Department. WNIN’s John Gibson has the story:
July 1st marks the beginning of the fire department providing ambulance service in Evansville, replacing long-time provider AMR.
Here’s the sound of one of the first EFD medic runs, as monitored by WNIN:

That ambulance is housed at Station 16 on Washington Avenue.
It’s the first time in nearly 40 years that the fire department has been in charge of ambulance service.
Earlier this week, a swearing-in and badging ceremony was conducted for the EMTs and Paramedics that now staff the department's EMS Division.
Evansville Mayor Stephanie Terry called for the change last year and the city council approved it.
More: The council used five-and-half million dollars in casino funds to help start the new ambulance service.
