Officials and volunteers are preparing for the 21st Honor Flight. WNIN’s John Gibson has details:
The Honor Flight of Southern Indiana has made 20 trips from Evansville Regional Airport to Washington D.C.
Each flight sends 86 military veterans on a one-day tour of D.C. sites including the World War II Memorial, the Korean War Memorial, the Vietnam Wall, the Lincoln Memorial, and Arlington National Cemetery.
Woods and Woods is contributing 50-thousand dollars to this September’s flight.
The law firm’s president, Neil Woods, says it’s the second time the company has sponsored a flight:
"You guys are a well-oiled machine. Your volunteers are so dedicated."
WNIN News asked Honor Flight Board President Mike Freeman if the twice-a-year flights are challenging:
"I wouldn't say it's a challenge, it's more of an honor to move the veterans to Washington D.C. but yes, there have been challenges along the way, there have been hiccups and successes, but we've been doing it for 20 flights now, and we've got a pretty good routine down."
Honor Flight has flown more than 15-hundred area veterans to D.C. and Freeman says they have no plans to stop.
