8TH District Congressman Mark Messmer did not attend a recent Town Hall event in Evansville. WNIN’s John Gibson has the story:
The group Indivisible Evansville invited Messmer to EVPL Central last Saturday, but he didn’t show and it was clear the gathering didn’t expect him:
"so we'll give him a bit more time (laughs)"
That’s group member Lori Salma asking whether the congressman had arrived.
When he didn’t, Indivisible Evansville President Wendy Bredhold noted she followed the invitation instructions:
"I did call Representative Messmer's office and I said I wanted to extend this invitation and they said okay, here's the email address. Send the request to this address, I did, I was very polite, I offered him all kinds of accommodations. They didn't reply at all."
Instead, Bredhold presented a slideshow on Messmer’s record in the Indiana Statehouse and in Congress and took questions and comments from the gathering of about 70 people.
Afterward, Bredhold said she was not surprised that Messmer didn’t show.
She also noted that when she invited the Republican Congressman, she didn’t know the state GOP convention was on the same date in Ft. Wayne:
"That would have been an easy thing for them to tell me: 'It's the Republican State Convention so he has to politely decline.' But instead I got no answer and didn't know until after we had scheduled the event."
