Indivisible Evansville is hoping US Rep. Mark Messmer (R-Jasper) will attend town hall to meet with constituents — prepared with presentation if he doesn’t

Volunteer civic action organization Indivisible Evansville has invited Republican US Representative Mark Messmer to a town hall event on Saturday.

Messmer’s office was sent a letter of invitation, including a chance to talk about what he’s been working on, and address constituents via Q and A. (Full letter below.)

Messmer hasn’t appeared in a local town hall so far, since his 2024 election. The closest thing to a town hall was a virtual event in May of 2025.

Saturday’s meeting with town hall will be held at the Evansville Central Library at 2 PM.

Wendy Bredhold of Indivisible Evansville, is prepared, whether Messmer appears.

She’ll make a presentation if he's absent —

“… talking about who he is, trying to suss out what he's done — both as a member of Congress and when he was in the Indiana legislature, and where … a lot of his funding has come from and then invite people to talk about either what they've learned from the presentation and what they think about it.”

They’ll gather audience concerns and complaints and share them with his office.

Bredhold thinks that since this is an election year, it would be a good time for him to talk to constituents.

“I think that he's, he's quite vulnerable right now, given that he's gotten, he's been under a lot of criticism for how he's not available to constituents, he's not available to the media, he refuses to answer any questions, like that's not going to make him a very popular guy.”

Messmer is a President Donald Trump-aligned Republican, lauding recent victories concerning the National Defense Authorization act and child care reform legislation.

Dear Rep. Messmer,

Following my conversation with your director of operations, I am writing to invite you to attend and speak at a public meeting of Indivisible Evansville at 2:00 PM on Saturday, June 20, in the Browning Rooms at Central Library in Evansville.

Our meetings are free and open to the public. We typically begin with brief announcements about community projects and upcoming events before introducing our guest speaker. This year our speakers have included representatives from organizations such as the Tri-State Food Bank, United Way, and other nonprofit and advocacy groups.

We would welcome introductory remarks on your experience in Congress thus far and the issues you are currently focused on serving constituents in Indiana’s 8th District. Following your remarks, we would invite attendees to participate in a moderated Q&A.

We maintain clear meeting agreements intended to support a respectful and productive discussion, including asking attendees to remain civil, limit themselves to one question at a time, and ask questions rather than make statements. We are also happy to discuss any format preferences or accommodations that would help make the event constructive and comfortable for your office.

Our monthly meetings generally attract around 50 attendees, though we would anticipate significantly broader public interest if you are able to join us.

We believe direct dialogue between elected officials and constituents is valuable, even when there are differences in political perspective, and we would sincerely appreciate your consideration.

Respectfully,

Wendy Bredhold

President, Indivisible Evansville
