Governor Mike Braun says the state of Indiana can “probably” afford to help public broadcasting. WNIN’s John Gibson reports:
State subsidies to Indiana’s public media stations were zeroed-out in the last General Assembly session, after the release of a discouraging revenue outlook.
President Trump then removed federal funding via executive order.
But Governor Braun told WNIN’s Shively and Shoulders program that he appreciates the programming:
"Now, I like most of what's there. Whether it's going to get supported by government, we can afford it probably. The federal government probably can't, so I'll let it at that."
The loss of state and federal funding forced the dismantling of the Indiana Public Broadcasting news network, but stations across the state continue to share content.
The cuts also pressured stations to raise more money among listeners and viewers.
