The Evansville Water and Sewer Utility is defending recent salary increases for it leaders. WNIN’s John Gibson has the story:
Public records show five of the department’s leaders have seen large pay raises in recent years, including Executive Director Vic Kelson – who was paid about 187-thousand dollars in 2025.
His pay is rising to nearly 205-thousand this year.
The Water and Sewer Utility argues that focusing on a handful of positions doesn’t provide the full context behind the compensation changes.
The utility says the adjustments are the culmination of a process that has been under consideration for years and not a sudden change in direction.
The EWSU also says the pay raises are needed to “attract and retain highly qualified professionals.”
The utility says compensation must be competitive with comparable utilities and organizations.
The EWSU contends it’s committed to being a responsible steward of public resources.
