Kentucky Gov. Andy Beshear has extended a reduction in the commonwealth’s gasoline tax to cities and counties that asked for it. WNIN’s John Gibson has the update:
Beshear is continuing a 10 cent reduction in the gas tax for 33 cities and counties where officials requested an extension.
The governor says Kentuckians in areas where the mayor or county judge/executive chose not to request an extension can expect to see prices at the pump rise by a dime starting Thursday.
To extend the May 5th executive order past the 30-day mark, Kentucky law requires local leaders to make a request.
A release from the governor’s office shows Owensboro, Sebree, and Earlington are among cities that requested the extension.
There was no indication that Henderson, Henderson County, or Daviess County asked for it.
Beshear took the step and others when gas prices rose due to the Iran War and the closing of the Strait of Hormuz.
