Thousands gathered in Downtown Evansville over the weekend to celebrate pride. WNIN’s John Gibson has a recap:
Saturday’s Pride Festival began with a colorful parade on Main St.
Among the spectators was Amber Green, a licensed clinical social worker:
"It's means a lot for advocating for my clients, advocating for youth, advocating for anyone who just wants to be loved, just wants to be accepted, just wants to belong."
An Evansville woman who shared only her first name, Emma, told me why she attended:
"As a lesbian who struggled for a very long time with my sexuality, it's important to me to come down and be able to celebrate in a free and inviting space with other people who are like-minded."
Candace Marshall of Evansville says she was pleased to see a lot of support in the parade:
"Yeah, there's quite a variety of businesses and agencies out here representing. It's good to see that."
Thousands showed their support for the LGBTQ+ community during the daylong festival in hot, humid weather.
The event organized by River City Pride featured dozens of vendors, food booths, live music -- and drag shows on a stage set up on Riverside Drive.
