Man’s best friend is credited with alerting a Newburgh family to a house fire. WNIN’s John Gibson has the story:
The Ohio Township Fire Department was dispatched to the blaze in the 64-hundred of Waterstone Court at about 4:30 Sunday morning.
Firefighters arrived and found smoke and fire coming from an attached garage.
The department says the occupants were able to escape the home with help of Newburgh Police.
The homeowner told authorities that their dog, who has a history of waking them during storms or whenever he’s anxious, woke them up when the fire broke out.
The occupants smelled smoke, went to investigate, opened the door to the garage, and found the blaze.
The department says the home had smoke detectors but they had not yet alerted the residents.
Firefighters confined the flames to the garage.
The cause of the fire remains under investigation.
