IDEM Issues Ozone Alert; Trend to Continue

File

The Indiana Department of Environmental Management designated Thursday an Air Quality Action Day

Officials are warning of potentially unhealthy air. WNIN’s John Gibson has details:

The Indiana Department of Environmental Management designated Thursday an Air Quality Action Day across the Hoosier State.

IDEM says ozone levels are expected to reach the range of Unhealthy for Sensitive Groups, including people with heart or lung disease, children, and older adults.

Officials say ozone measurements have been increasing in recent days as the state has remained in the same air mass.

They expect the trend to continue.

Bright sunshine, warm temperatures, and light winds can increase ground level ozone.

Steps residents can take to reduce ozone: limit driving and idling, use mass transit, and postpone fueling-up vehicles until the evening.
More information on air quality can be found here.
