Indiana Department of Natural Resources is waiving license and day-pass fees this weekend (and Sept. 26)

An annual Indiana DNR fishing license is normally $23; a trout or salmon one-day-pass is $10. But this weekend the cost is zero dollars because it’s a free fishing weekend.

While the standard fees promote natural conservation, the Indiana Department of Natural Resources (DNR) uses these free fishing days to encourage angler-curious Hoosiers to give fishing a shot. Or, a line.

Cindy Stites, DNR wildlife recreation program manager, told WNIN previously that they want more Hoosiers to enjoy the outdoors.

"We want more people to enjoy the outside spaces, public lands, public water in Indiana 3 want them to be more involved in what conservation is in our state."

While fee-free this weekend, all other state fishing rules are in effect including bag limits, size restrictions and seasonal rules.

In nearby waters bluegill, redear, carp, catfish, crappie, largemouth bass and trout may be available.
