A labor agreement has been signed, as the Evansville Fire Department prepares to take over the city’s emergency ambulance service. WNIN’s John Gibson has details:
The Evansville Professional Fire Fighters Local 357 and the City of Evansville signed a collective bargaining agreement for the representation of the department’s new EMS Division.
Officials say the agreement ensures 47 full time employees will receive fair and equitable compensation while also providing the resources needed to deliver the highest standard of care to the residents of Evansville.
Beginning July 1st, the fire department’s EMS Division begins responding to 911 calls throughout the city.
City officials decided last year to end its long contract with AMR.
Meanwhile, Vanderburgh County Commissioners have scheduled a special meeting for Tuesday to accept bids and public input for ambulance service outside the city limits.
AMR’s contract with the county expires at the end of this year.
The special meeting is set for Tuesday morning at 10:30 in Room 301 of the Civic Center.
