Officials, including Mayor Stephanie Terry, unveiled the sign before dozens of people at Vann Park Wednesday evening:

Haynie, who lived just a block from Vann Park, was killed in her home last year.

As State Representative Tim O’Bryan noted, the suspect in Haynie’s death had just been released from prison, and that prompted a new state law:

"That's going to close a dangerous notification gap when serious violent offenders are released into a community."

Haynie’s son, Ken Haynie III, thanked all the friends and family:

"We're overwhelmed by the support certainly and honored by the sign and the dedication, and just really feel like it's a very special thing for a special lady and a special community."

Officials also dedicated a new covered pavilion in Vann Park.
