The University of Evansville will dedicate a bench on its campus to remember the school's first Black graduate

The University of Evansville will honor the memory of its first Black graduate this weekend. WNIN’s John Gibson has a preview:

In 1938, Zerah Priestly Carter earned a four-year Bachelor of Science degree in Education from what was then Evansville College.

UE says Mrs. Carter went on to teach in Evansville's public schools, influencing generations of students through her commitment to education and service.

UE will honor Carter by dedicating a memorial bench Saturday afternoon at 2:30 on the northeast side of the university’s Front Oval.

UE says the bench will serve as a lasting, visible tribute to her legacy and the path she helped to create.

The University says the bench was made possible through the generosity of the UE African American Alumni Association.
