After a years-long project, a new welcome center has opened in northern Posey County, IN

Officials have cut a ribbon, opening a new rest stop in northern Posey County. WNIN’s John Gibson has details:

The Indiana Department of Transportation joined public officials and contractors for a ceremonial ribbon cutting to mark the opening of the rebuilt Black River Welcome Center on eastbound I-64.

INDOT says the new welcome center is inspired by the boyhood home of President Abraham Lincoln.

Interactive exhibits feature historical information about the 16th president.

Also featured are former presidents from Indiana, Benjamin Harrison and William Henry Harrison, and interactive exhibits and design elements that highlight southern Indiana.

The years-long reconstruction also includes a recreation area, children's playground, and a dog park.

The new rest area increases the number of parking spots for semis to 75 from 60 spaces at the previous welcome center.
