The Evansville Vanderburgh Public Library is hosting its first art show since the closure of the Arts Council of Southwestern Indiana. WNIN’s John Gibson has the story:
The Young at Art exhibit adorns the walls and bookshelves in the READ Room at EVPL Central.
Former Arts Council employee Andrea Adams is now Assistant Librarian in Arts Programming at Central:
"We have over 100 pieces in this show, more than 10 schools represented, and 4 counties."
Adams notes home-schooled children also took part in the exhibit which used to be presented at the Arts Council gallery.
She says an art exhibit in a library can be a little tricky:
"We actually created a hanging system in one part of the show to showcase the art. We put the majority of the show on top of the lower bookshelves so that kids can still see it but maybe can't always touch."
Adams says nearly 200 people turned out for a reception for the Young at Art show. It continues in the READ room at EVPL through April 4th.
The library’s first traditional exhibit for adults, What Do You Love, is scheduled to open April 15th.
