The Evansville Fire Department, the American Red Cross, and volunteers installed smoke detectors in the Evansville neighborhood where a recent house fire killed 3

The Evansville Fire Department partnered with the American Red Cross over the weekend for a Home Fire Campaign. WNIN’s John Gibson has details:

The EFD says volunteers went door-to-door speaking with residents about fire safety and the importance of working smoke detectors.

Teams installed and replaced detectors free of charge for residents who needed them.

The effort was conducted in a neighborhood that recently experienced a tragic fire.

The blaze in the 600 block of Powell claimed three young lives and there were no working smoke detectors in the home.

The EFD says Evansville averages about ten fire-related injuries or deaths a year.

The Department says the goal is zero.
