A half dozen female leaders took part in a Women's History Month event at Angel Mounds in Evansville, IN

A panel of female leaders discussed challenges and barriers -- and how to overcome them. WNIN’s John Gibson has the story:

During the “Herstory” event at Angel Mounds, Evansville Mayor Stephanie Terry spoke about a frequent situation for her:

"The only woman, the only woman of color in the room. Those are very uncomfortable moments. They have been for most of my life. So, it's easy to think about who’s missing."

Evansville City Councilor Mary Allen spoke of an “inner voice” that questioned her abilities as a candidate for office:

"You know, asking other people 'do you think I could do this, do you think I'm capable?' And I was looking for consensus that I was enough to do it."

Vanderburgh County Prosecutor Diana Moers said sometimes you have to “do it scared”…

"Building confidence and resilience is just born out of doing it. You just have to do it. Don't expect to feel completely comfortable or confident or you know, sure of yourself."

Other participants included EVSC Superintendent Darla Hoover, Vanderburgh County Councilor Jill Hahn, and the head of the Indiana State Museum and Historic Sites Cathy Feree.
