Health Department Wins Reaccreditation

VCHD

The Public Health Accreditation Board has reaccredited the Vanderburgh County Health Department

The Vanderburgh County Health Department has successfully completed a review process to keep its national accreditation. WNIN’s John Gibson has details:

The Health Department says a review by the Public Health Accreditation Board allowed the local department to maintain the status for another five years.

Officials say the department met the board’s quality standards and measures, and has the capacity to continue to evolve, improve, and advance.

Vanderburgh County Health Officer Dr. R. Kenneth Spear says if public health accreditation were an Olympic event, the local team would be “standing on the podium with a gold medal.”

Spear says the department voluntarily pursued national accreditation five years ago, inviting outside experts to evaluate infrastructure, programs, and performance.

The department received the accreditation then and now.

The accreditation program receives support from the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention.
