It’s been a long time goal of the Warrick County Tourism Commission to see a tourism director employed for the county.
Non profit group Visit Warrick County hired Ali Oliver for the brand new role in late November.
Oliver said her challenge is overcoming the idea that there aren’t many tourism destinations in the county.
“Things like outdoor recreation, camping, historical sites, off roading vehicles, a lot of walking trails,” she said. “That's the kind of stuff that not everybody sees, because our county is so large and so rural.”
She’s also highlighting hotels, large businesses and riverfront communities.
She said her initial goals are creating awareness of their organization, partnerships with other groups and a better more user-friendly website.
Oliver said they’re really just getting started in creating their forward-facing assets.
“Just to create some of those foundational pieces, like we need some more marketing materials, a more comprehensive website that's very user friendly, and to also just help promote our sports tourism, our business entities and our outdoor recreation.”
Another goal is partnering with other organizations and raising awareness for hers.
She was attending the regional Arts & Culture Strategic Plan Open House on Tuesday in Evansville.
