A Warrick County fire department is urging residents to make their house keys available to firefighters. WNIN’s John Gibson explains:
The Ohio Township Fire Department is raising awareness of residential Knox Boxes.
They’re described as a secure key storage system that provides firefighters rapid access to homes during emergencies.
The department says Knox Boxes allow first responders to quickly enter a home without forced entry -- reducing property damage and potentially saving lives.
Officials say the system is particularly beneficial for seniors, individuals with medical conditions, and homes with long driveways or security gates.
The Department uses a cloud management system to secure the keys and monitor the access and use of each key.
Residents interested in installing a Knox Box or learning more about the program can to contact the Ohio Township Fire Department at 812-858-4313 or here.
