The Vanderburgh County Sheriff’s Office says deputies were dispatched to a report of a person walking in the roadway on I-69, west of the Covert Avenue, just after midnight Monday morning.
Three minutes later, another caller reported that the person had been struck by a vehicle.
The sheriff’s office says deputies arrived and found an SUV stopped in the median, as well as the victim lying near the shoulder of the highway.
The victim was pronounced deceased at the scene.
The coroner’s office has not yet released the person’s name.
The sheriff’s office says the driver of the SUV fully cooperated with deputies and submitted to a chemical test following the crash.
Investigators say drugs or alcohol were not believed to be a factor.
