Authorities are investigating a house fire that killed two children in Evansville. WNIN’s John Gibson reports:
The tragedy happened early Sunday morning in the 600 block of Powell Avenue, near Garvin.
The Evansville Fire Department says the first crews on the scene encountered heavy fire conditions on the first floor of the home, with flames quickly spreading through the house and into the attic.
The EFD says firefighters began a search and located “multiple juveniles” inside the burning home.
They were transported to a local hospital, where two were later pronounced deceased.
Another juvenile was flown to a hospital in Indianapolis.
There’s no word yet on the names of the injured or deceased.
There’s also no word yet on how the fire started.
The department says the Bureau of Alcohol, Tobacco, Firearms and Explosives is assisting with the investigation.
In a release, the Fire Department extended its deepest condolences to the family and loved ones affected by "this tragic incident.”
