Traffic moving on Riverside Drive in Downtown Evansville, Tuesday, Jan. 27, 2026 two days after a major snowstorm

Sunshine and slightly warmer temperatures are helping crews clear snow and ice from area roadways

Sunshine and slightly warmer temperatures should help melt more of the snow and ice in the Tri-State. WNIN’s John Gibson has the update:

Temperatures are still expected to stay below freezing in the Evansville area all week.

But the combination of sunshine and higher temperatures should help crews clear the roadways.

Vanderburgh County Garage Superintendent Jeff Byrd told county commissioners on Tuesday that crews have been busy:

"It's been a long weekend. We spent a lot of hours out there. We had some issues but we worked though them."

Sheriff Noah Robinson shared what he has seen on county roads:

"Well I'd say at this point, were at the stage where folks who were staying home are now venturing out and now they're getting a little adventurous in terms of seeing some of the roads are clear and then they get their speed up a little bit and then they encounter a road that's not all the way clear and they're going into a ditch."

Major highways are passable but secondary roads and side streets are still slippery and drivers can get stuck.

The National Weather Service is predicting a new wave of bitter cold temperatures and wind chills to move into the area Thursday night.

But there’s no additional snow or ice in the forecast through this week.
