Forecasters say some locations could see a foot of snow in the Tri-State this weekend

Forecasters are growing more confident that a major snowstorm will hit the Evansville area this weekend. WNIN’s John Gibson has the update:

The National Weather Service has upgraded the Winter Storm Watch to a Warning.

It will be in effect from late Friday night through Sunday afternoon.

Meteorologist Rachel Trevino at the Paducah office says confidence is high:

"We will have moderate to major travel impacts with this storm. Confidence of at least six inches (is) still pretty high. A lot of the area could see over six inches."

Trevino warns the Evansville area could see a band of the heaviest snow:

"Chances of over 8 inches across west Kentucky extreme southern Illinois, even into southwest Indiana and southeast Missouri."

Trevino says some of us may even see a foot of the white stuff:

"We could see some areas see 12-plus inches. Isolated higher amounts (are) always a possibility with these kinds of events."

Trevino reminds residents that the snow will be accompanied by very cold air:

"What they use to pre-treat roads has a hard time with such cold conditions. So, this may be a very challenging cleanup after this event ends."
