CenterPoint Offering Summer Savings Program

CenterPoint Energy says its TimeWise program can help save customers money by using electricity during off-peak hours

CenterPoint Energy has launched a program that it says could save residents money on their electric bills. WNIN’s John Gibson has details:

It’s called TimeWise and it offers residential customers in southwestern Indiana a lower price when using energy during off-peak hours.

The company says energy costs decrease when demand is lower.

So, during the summer months of June through September, TimeWise participants will pay lower rates weekday mornings before 1 p.m., weekday evenings after 7 p.m., and any time on weekends.

Rates are higher on summer weekday afternoons between 1 p.m. and 7 p.m. when demand for electricity is greatest.

The program, approved by the Indiana Utility Regulatory Commission as the Critical Peak Pilot, will begin enrolling customers this month.

CenterPoint is expected to seek a second phase of electric rate hikes by March 1st.

Ratepayers saw a nearly 25-percent increase in their CenterPoint bills last year.
