A new mayor is expected to be chosen this (Fri) evening in Jasper. WNIN’s John Gibson has more.
The Dubois County Republican Party has scheduled a caucus to select the successor to Mayor Dean Vonderheide. He announced he was stepping down last week.
A Republican caucus chose the 75-year-old Vonderheide to fill the mayor’s seat in 2018 before voters elected him to the office in 2019.
He says he had planned to not run again in 2023 but was convinced to do so and “see key projects through.”
Now, Vonderheide says he’s fulfilled his passion.
The GOP caucus to select a new mayor is set for 6:00 p.m. at Jasper City Hall.
