The City of Evansville will take part in a study that could lead to a regional transit authority

The City of Evansville has joined a regional transportation study. WNIN’s John Gibson has details:

The Board of Public Works approved an agreement with the Evansville Metropolitan Planning Organization to take party in the feasibility study.

It will examine how to improve regional transit service, including the potential creation of a Regional Transit Authority.

It would serve Evansville, Vanderburgh County, Warrick County, and Henderson.

The cost of the study is nearly 200-thousand dollars, with 80 percent funded by federal transportation sources and the remaining 20 percent shared among participating local governments.

Evansville’s portion is just short of 22-thousand.

Mayor Stephanie Terry says the study will explore whether a regional approach could better serve residents and make more efficient use of public dollars.

As of Thursday, only Henderson had not yet approved funding for the study.
