Jasper Mayor Dean Vonderheide (R)

Republican Jasper, IN, Mayor Dean Vonderheide says he will step down March 31st

The mayor of Jasper is stepping down at the end of March. WNIN’s has details:

Mayor Dean Vonderheide says it’s time to pass the torch to what he calls ”the leadership of individuals with the passion and energy” to execute long-range plans and guide the city to the future.

A Republican caucus chose Vonderheide to fill the mayor’s seat in 2018 before voters elected him to the office in 2019.

The 75-year-old says he had planned to not run again in 2023 but was convinced to do so and “see key projects through.”

Now, Vonderheide says he’s fulfilled his passion to serve the community he loves.

He does say he will stay engaged and continue to contribute to Jasper and Dubois County.

The county’s Republican Party will caucus to choose Vonderheide’s successor January 16th.

Interested persons must file for the seat at least 72 hours before the caucus.
