Local Democrats are looking to fill a seat on the Evansville City Council next month. WNIN’s John Gibson has more:
The Vanderburgh County Democratic Party will hold a caucus to elect a new 4th Ward Evansville City Councilor.
It’s set for January 10th at 10:00 A.M. at Democratic headquarters on NW Fourth Street in Evansville.
The caucus follows the resignation of Councilor Tanesha Carothers, who faces allegations of not meeting residency requirements for the seat.
A caucus chose Carothers last year to replace Alex Burton after he was elected to the Indiana House.
Anyone wishing to submit their name for the
city council seat must have lived in the city limits for at least one year; lived in the 4th Ward for at least six months; be a registered voter in Vanderburgh County; and have requested a Democratic ballot in the last two primaries they voted in.
Interested persons must complete a form on the Indiana Secretary of State’s website.
It must be notarized and received no later than 10:00 AM Wednesday, January 7th -- 72 hours before the caucus.
More information is available by calling local Democratic Chair Cheryl Schultz at 812-459-7645.
