Republicans Becker, Tomes Split on Redistricting

Indiana Senator Jim Tomes voted for the congressional redistricting bill while fellow Republican Vaneta Becker voted against it

The two Indiana senators from the Evansville area were split on the issue of drawing a new congressional map. WNIN’s John Gibson reports:

Moderate Republican Vaneta Becker of Evansville voted with the majority against redistricting, while conservative GOP Senator Jim Tomes of Wadesville voted for the measure.

The Indiana Senate defeated the bill 31-19, after the House approved it last week.

It was the first time President Trump's redistricting campaign has been voted down by members of his own party.

The proposed map for Indiana was expected to move all nine congressional seats to the GOP.

The party already controls seven of the nine seats.
