Officials celebrated the opening of a Toyota "smart plant" in Christian County, KY

Officials are celebrating the grand opening of a new Toyota facility in western Kentucky. WNIN’s John Gibson has details:

Gov. Andy Beshear joined Hopkinsville officials and leaders from Toyota Boshoku America for the opening of the 225-million dollar “smart plant.”

The operation is expected to create 157 full-time jobs.

Beshear says with the opening “the future has never been brighter for the commonwealth’s manufacturing and automotive sectors.”

Toyota -- which operates a major plant in Gibson County, Indiana -- says the new facility on nearly 50 acres in Christian County implements technologies to create a more efficient and environmentally responsible operation.

The plant began production of seat frame mechanism parts such as seat tracks, seat recliners, and motors last month.
