Monday should be the day that Riverside Drive reopens – at least partially. WNIN’s John Gibson has the latest:
The Evansville Water and Sewer Utility had hoped to reopen Riverside to one lane of traffic in each direction on Friday (Nov. 21).
But EWSU spokesman Travis Guffy says the weather didn’t cooperate.
Guffy says “sustained rainfall delayed the restoration work at the sinkhole site” at Riverside and Chestnut.
The utility now expects to open one lane of Riverside each way by mid-morning Monday.
The sinkhole developed in late February and grew into a major reconstruction project.
Eventually, crews had to close all four lanes of the roadway and high river levels hampered the project for months.
Guffy says crews don’t have a confirmed date on reopening all four lanes.
He says the utility appreciates the community’s patience.
