Post-Thanksgiving Cooking Oil to be Collected

EWSU

The Evansville Water and Sewer Utility will offer cooking oil disposal Nov. 29th

If you’re cooking a big meal for Thanksgiving, don’t pour leftover fats, oil, or grease down the drain. WNIN’s John Gibson has advice from the Evansville Water and Sewer Utility:

The EWSU is offering its Cooking Oil Disposal Event the Saturday after Thanksgiving, November 29th, from 8am to 1pm at Sunrise Pump Station.

The event on Evansville’s riverfront is a partnership between the utility and American Grease and Sceptic.

Only used cooking oils and grease will be accepted, such as canola oil, corn oil, olive oil, vegetable oil, and meat drippings.

Petroleum oil waste will not be allowed.

It’s a free service for city and county resident only. Oil and grease from restaurants and commercial establishments will not be allowed.

Officials say pouring fats, oils and grease – known as FOG -- down the drain or down the toilet can clog the plumbing inside your home and lead to backups in the city’s sanitary sewer system.
