A longtime state legislator from Evansville has won a new education award. WNIN’s John has details:
The Indiana School Boards Association has named State Senator Vaneta Becker an inaugural recipient of the Champions for K-through-12 Education Award.
The association says it recognizes Becker’s “exceptional leadership in support of public education throughout her distinguished legislative career.”
Association Executive Director Terry Spradlin says Becker “stands firm on issues of importance to public education.”
Evansville Vanderburgh School Corporation Superintendent Darla Hoover thanked Becker for her support, saying “her commitment to students, teachers, and families has had a meaningful and lasting impact on our schools and community.”
Abbie Redmon, Superintendent of Warrick County School Corporation, echoed those sentiments in a letter of support.
Sen. Becker has served in the Indiana Senate since 2005, following 24 years in the Indiana House of Representatives.
