U.S. Senator Todd Young of Indiana voted with most Republicans to strike down a measure to reign in the Trump administration’s military action in the Caribbean against alleged drug traffickers. WNIN’s John Gibson has details:
The Caribbean War Powers Resolution called for no military strikes inside Venezuela without the authorization of Congress.
Senator Young voted no, saying he’s received information from the administration that has given him “a greater appreciation for the legal rationale” behind by the military strikes.
But Young says his vote is not an endorsement of the administration’s current course in the Caribbean and Eastern Pacific.
He says he’s troubled by many aspects and assumptions of the operation and believes it’s at odds with most Americans who want the U.S. military less entangled in international conflicts.
Republican Senators Rand Paul of Kentucky and Lisa Murkowski of Alaska joined the Democrats in backing the measure.
It failed on a vote of 51-49.
