This week when you walk into Willard Public Library in Evansville you’re greeted by cobweb adorned bannisters and chandeliers with appropriately huge spiders.

Other displays include a bedroom vignette with menacing toys and others with your traditional skeleton and grave markers.

George Carter, Library executive director, said they like leaning into the lore — especially surrounding resident ghost The Gray lady.

“The community has always been really interested in the lore," Carter said. "They've just had an overwhelming amount of interest from the community. When the previous director put up the ghost cameras that we have running 24/7, it crashed the website.”

Currently the Grey Lady statue is haunting the impressively decorated Bayard Room upstairs. Explore it if you dare.

Trick-or-treating at Willard is open until 5:30 on Friday. Guests are encouraged to wear costumes and visit all four departments, which are of course decorated.

Carter said there’s an audio ghost tour as well.

“So you bring your headphones, you can walk through the library. We had local actors and actresses record all the different stories that we have throughout the building, so you can come through, walk through, and look at all the decorations and hear all of the great stories from our Gray Lady.”
