Local Groups Preparing for Food Issues

Feed Evansville

Evansville's food security commission says it's preparing for SNAP benefits to be cut off

A local commission says it’s activating a readiness plan to deal with food uncertainty as the federal government shutdown continues. WNIN’s John Gibson has details:

The City of Evansville’s Commission on Food Security says it’s working with local partners to strengthen and expand existing programs so families that depend on SNAP can continue putting food on the table.

The commission says the federal program provides about three-point-seven million dollars in food assistance to roughly 95-hundred households in Evansville and Vanderburgh County each month.

The commission says that’s nearly 15,600 people, or about 13% of the community.
The Commission says it will share more about local food programs, volunteer opportunities, and ways community members can help in the coming days.

If you or someone you know needs food assistance—or if you’d like to get involved—you’re asked to visit feedevansville.com or tristatefoodbank.org.
