Local Democrats have chosen a new Evansville City Councilor. WNIN’s John Gibson has the story:
Democrats say a party caucus selected Rita Taylor to fill the vacancy for Evansville City Council’s Second Ward.
The seat became vacant when council member Missy Mosby accepted a new position leading Animal Care and Control.
Democrats describe Taylor as a seasoned political strategist, educator, author, and racial and social justice organizer.
The party says Taylor has more than two decades of experience advancing equity, education, and empowerment.
A native of Memphis, Democrats say her dedication to public service began in Kansas City in 2001, where she organized neighbors around local policy issues, strengthened civic participation, and helped build coalitions amplifying underrepresented voices.
Taylor has taught in the EVSC and served as an organizer for the Evansville Teachers Association.
