A winner has come forward to claim this year’s West Side Nut Club Half Pot. WNIN’s John Gibson has the update:
The Nut Club says John Crowley of Evansville won half of the record than two-point-six million dollar jackpot.
Crowley did not attend the club’s announcement but Half Pot Chairman Alex Huber read a statement from him:
"I hope to buy a reliable car, purchase a house I can truly call my own, and make smart investments that will hopefully allow me to retire early."
Crowley, who has always lived on the West Side, told the Nut Club that he’s been through some rough times and the winning ticket was a “blessing.”
Nut Club Publicity Chair Brandon Julian was asked what will happen to the one-point-three million claimed by the club:
"We will have that go forward next year, whenever our board decides with the different charities that come forward and ask for money."
Officials say Crowley bought 50 tickets for $40 online.
It was the first year for online ticket sales.
The winner of the “early bird” drawing was Martha Frounfelter of Evansville. She won a “side by side” off-road vehicle.
