Evansville public libraries EVPL East and EVPL West will receive monetary gifts from Carnegie Corporation

Two Evansville libraries will continue their “Carnegie connection.” WNIN’s John Gibson explains:

EVPL East and EVPL West will each receive a 10-thousand dollar gift from Carnegie Corporation of New York.

EVPL East -- inside Bayard Park – and EVPL West – on W. Franklin St. – were established by the Carnegie Foundation in 1913.

The new awards are part of “Carnegie Libraries 250”, an initiative celebrating the approaching 250th anniversary of the signing of the Declaration of Independence.

The initiative also honors the nearly 13-hundred Carnegie Libraries still serving their communities across the U.S.

About 750 of those libraries – including EVPL East and West – continue to operate in their original buildings.

The local libraries will receive the gifts in January.
